Caught this crash on dash cam less than an hour ago. The little pink Spark stopped at a red light, and the distracted driver in the Civic slammed into the back of them. The couple in the Spark were ok, and the lady in the Civic seemed fine apart from a bloody nose and being badly shaken up. She told the police she had looked down to reach for her chapstick, but I am fairly certain she was looking at her phone. The police stated that they didn’t need the footage because it was obvious what happened and there were half a dozen witnesses.

Yep, time to get that 5 point harness for my DD.

I’m just thinking, as small as that Spark is, what if she had hit me in the Alfa?

I still find it amazing that, when people get in wrecks, they completly forget they have a brake pedal. That civic looked like it was going to roll into the next county!

But it says January.
Well if the sonic driver decides to sue the civic driver, they may need it. But I guess as long as its online they can get it from there.

We gave them our info and they said they may want the video.
Date is wrong.

You can only Kind of tell in the video but she missed a very deep drainage ditch by about half a foot.

Why did that Cobalt leaving like 3-4 car spaces? Was he anticipating the accident?

I think they were second guessing if they were supposed to make the right on to the on ramp for West Bound Interstate 80.

Reason #254 why I ordered a dashcam.
Side note/tangent: Gearbest.com is AWFUL. They give the “option” to buy from different warehouses in different countries. China costs the least, then the US, and the most expensive is Europe. Apparently tho, they all just ship out of China. I bought from the US, then they said it they were out after I paid so now I’m getting it from China but at the US warehouse rates. So in short, I paid more to get it from the US, but I’m still getting it from China. So I won’t be getting it for who knows how long, if ever.

Colbalt driver had some way heads up defensive driving- he totally saw what was happening.
This is what I always drummed into my kids when they learned to drive......always pay attention to *everything* going on *all* around you.

There was a time, only 20 or so years ago, where a little car like that Spark would have folded like a Coke can from that impact.
Say what you will about how heavy and fuel inefficient modern day crumple-zones and safety cages have made our cars...but they do a surprisingly good job of saving lives.

Indeed. but i think shock and self examination plays a part before realizing control is an issue.

Goning over that curb must have felt good

I know Sparks are light cars but a turn like that after a hit like that...jeez. Glad everyone is okay.
Also, I want a dash cam for Christmas. Take note.

A friend of mine recently had her 10-day-old Caravan totaled by a driver in a Cobalt who was messing with their phone and blew through a red light. She now has back and leg problems as a result of the wreck.
Sad side note: was her last day driving to her job 40 minutes from home before being transferred to the same company’s location just a few minutes away from her house.

That could be true, but the majority of Cobalt drivers behaviour I see around here suggests that it’s not awareness but rather the inexplicable urge to brake hard well before the lights and then creep up to it that some people seem to have.
Maybe they’re pissed at having to drive a Cobalt and they’re hoping someone will rear-end them so they can get a new car... I dunno.

That sucks. Hopefully her recovery is speedy and her insurance payout is hefty.

If I could still post pics, I’d show that BMW M4 hopping a curb.

Apparently he was paying more attention to what the Civic was doing than the Civic was.

Was trying to make a play on “saving lives”. Evidently it didn’t work...

Without the HANS, a harness can be dangerous in some situations.
Body stops (held in with the harness), but the head doesn’t. That does bad things to the neck.
